Wild... exhilirating... an adventure... these are just a few of the adjectives used to describe this unique course. Dundee, with a SLOPE rating of 132 from the white tees, is second only to the Highlands Links in difficulty.
Architect Robert Moote was presented with an awesome task and responded by carving a 4 splendid course from mountainous terrain. Every hole has its own character and requires accurate shots to narrow landing areas. Familiarity definitely helps to achieve any kind of score on this trek and power carts are recommended for the faint of heart.
Slicers will find miss-hit tee shots down embankments on holes 11 , 12 and 14 while those
inclined to hook will meet a similar fate on holes 5, 8, 15, and 17. Hole number 7, a 401 yard par 4 is the lowest rated hole on the course. It plays much longer than the registered yardage as it is entirely uphill to an elevated green, with a bunker to the right back and a severe slope to the left side of the green. The Par 4 second is also the second most difficult hole and plays 381 yards uphill with a slight dog-leg right. Asand trap, ditch and pond to the right side of the fairway plus an elevated green make this hole very difficult indeed. Hole number 16, the signature hole, measures 153 yards from the tee set high above the green, which is protected by three sand traps - one on either side of the front and one along the baclc. From this tee a golfer could easily be distracted by the magnificent view of the Bras d'Or Lakes, the largest salt water lake in the world, and the beautiful secluded marina. The Dundee course opened as a nine hole layout with cottages in 1977 and expanded to 18 holes during 1980-81, at which time it was owned and operated by the Province of Nova Scotia.
